Mining far beyond the mine

It takes vision to do things differently. And it takes courage and innovation to develop one of the world’s largest iron ore projects.

Anglo American is working to produce iron ore of the highest quality with the Minas-Rio project. But that’s just the beginning. We’re also building a complete infrastructure to transport the iron ore all the way from the mine, in Conceição do Mato Dentro, Minas Gerais, to the port, in São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro. This highly advanced engineering project is the result of an investment of 5 billion dollars. Since we started working on this project, our iron ore reserves in Brazil have increased fourfold to 5.3 billion tons, making Brazil a world leader in iron ore production.

The Minas-Rio project is a long-term partnership with Brazil that we’re really proud of, and which allows for the creation of over 10 thousand jobs both in and out of the mine. That’s how we’re broadening the meaning of mining.
