Through investment and careful implementation, Anglo American’s intention is to deliver a water strategy that benefits both ourselves and the communities in which we operate around the globe.
Today in Brazil, we are drawing on our expertise around the world. From water reclamation plants in Africa to desalination plants in Australia, we will be using all the knowledge we have to ensure our water usage here in Brazil has a positive effect on local areas.
That’s why, at our Minas Rio project, hydrogeologists think in terms of the science of water. It’s not enough to merely understand the water usage of the mine; people like José Centeno also study the watershed and catchment basin of the region.
His skill enables us to reduce and reuse the mine’s water and find new ways to generate more from waste whilst discovering how to manage the watershed, thus avoiding imbalances in the future.
Through the hard work, thought and care of all our workers, we make sure issues like water do not stop at the mine gates. They are always part of our wider responsibility: to preserve water, enhance the environment and create success for the communities around us.
