Anglo American is a mining company recognised around the world for doing things differently. We aim to go beyond what is expected of us, so we set our own standards. In the Cordillera El Melón, in the Valparaiso region, we have been investing in environmental conservation projects for almost a decade in partnership with the government, farmers, universities and scientists plus teachers and students from the Christa Mock agricultural school.

We’re protecting an area of 1,000 hectares, guaranteeing the preservation of more than 90,000 native plants such as the Belloto Del Norte and the Naranjillo, both of which are endangered species. We are also producing research about the region and educating the youth on the importance of preserving such a unique environment as the Cordillera El Melón. It’s a collective preservation effort, and we want to do more than just what local regulations require us to do. It’s our own way of taking the initiative and moving forward towards a greener future for Chile.
