Our success doesn’t come only from what we get out of the ground. It also comes from what we put back into the communities where we operate. So, in order to measure our success, we need to look not just at our operations, but also at the areas around them.

Through our Supplier Development Program, we offer training and support to local business so that they can grow with us. The program includes courses in the areas of administration, finance and marketing, in addition to other initiatives related to health, the environment and innovation. This way, the local economy will be ready to take advantage of growth opportunities, which generates more jobs and improves the quality of life of our neighbors.

We pioneered this program in Brazil and we are proud to say that Anglo American will soon adopt the same model around the world. This means that more suppliers will be able to grow with Anglo American wherever we operate.

When Eduardo joined the program in 2009, his clinical laboratory in Conceição do Mato Dentro employed three people. Now, it already employs nine. With our help, he learned how to manage his finances and to plan the expansion of his lab. And since we’re his clients too, the business is going to grow even more once our mine is up and running.
