Each one of our employees is cause to celebrate. It is only together with this diverse and talented group of people that we can affect change in the countries where we operate.

Of course, it is not possible to make a difference at a macro-level without addressing the same challenges at a micro-level. Which is why Anglo American is working hard to promote equality in all we do, especially in what was previously a male-dominated environment.

Our Platinum business places this same emphasis on the attraction, retention and advancement of women in all disciplines and at all levels. We currently employ 6,200 women, of which 2,494 work underground in different job descriptions. Together, these women make up 12% of our workforce and play a significant role in our day-to-day operations.

Each of these women makes a valuable contribution. By working with us, they are also working for an improved country where more and more women can be employed sustainably and upskilled.

Because we believe in the advancement of all our female employees, we are proud that there are three women on our Executive Committee and 20% in management.

Our efforts for equality have recently been recognised in the form of the Top Resources award at South Africa’s Annual Top Women Awards for the second year running. We also received the Overall Top Gender Empowered Company award.

While we are honoured by the awards, we realise that only with the support of these women, and the work they do every day, can we achieve these results. After all, it is in partnership with these women that we can help build a company, and a country, that values equality above all.
